Swappy on Discord

Swappy is a Discord bot for cross-chain crypto swaps on the Chainflip protocol. Type /swap in a server where Swappy is installed and it walks you through your swap in a private thread. You send from your own wallet: there is no wallet to connect, no sign-up, and your funds never pass through Swappy.

Start a swap with /swap

/swap works in the text channels of any server Swappy is in, not in direct messages. Swappy opens a private thread for your swap, adds only you and itself, and walks you through six steps. Each step updates the same message, with Back and Cancel buttons along the way:

  1. Asset to send: pick it from the list, for example Bitcoin (BTC) or arbUSDC (USDC).
  2. Asset to receive: any other supported asset.
  3. Amount: tap one of the suggested amounts or enter your own. Swappy tells you right away if it is below the minimum.
  4. Destination address: where the swapped asset goes. You see a first quote here, and Swappy checks that the address fits the network.
  5. Refund address: where your deposit goes back if the swap can't go through.
  6. Review: the quote and every detail of your swap. Tap Swap! to go ahead.

Swappy then asks Chainflip for a deposit address and posts the instructions in the thread: the exact amount, the network to send on, the deposit address with a QR code, and a Chainflip Explorer button. A second message holds only the address, so you can copy it with a long press on your phone. The thread is then locked.

Send your deposit

  • Send exactly the amount from the instructions, on the network they name, within an hour. More than that is still swapped, but at the market rate at that moment.
  • Funds sent to an expired deposit address can't be recovered. The Chainflip Explorer button shows whether your deposit channel is still open.
  • Every swap has a minimum price 2% below its quote. If the market moves further than that, Chainflip keeps retrying the swap for a while, and if the price doesn't come back, your deposit is sent back to your refund address.

Check a price with /quote

/quote takes an amount, the asset to swap from and the asset to swap to, and answers with about how much you would receive after fees. Only you see the answer. Its Start Swapping button opens a new swap thread for you.

Follow a swap with /status

Every swap has a reference number (0x…), shown at the bottom of Swappy's messages and in the name of your swap thread. /status with that number shows where your swap is, from waiting for your deposit to completed. Only you see the answer. Swappy doesn't post progress in the thread, so use /status or the Chainflip Explorer button.

Swap announcements

Swappy announces every swap when it starts and again when it completes, in #swaps on the Swappy Discord and in the Swappy Telegram group, without mentioning who made it. Adding Swappy to your own server doesn't post these announcements there.

Add Swappy to your server

Add Swappy to your server and anyone there can use /swap, /quote and /status. Every swap still happens in its own private thread, so addresses and amounts stay out of your channels. Swappy asks for these permissions:

  • View Channels and Send Messages, to answer commands.
  • Create Private Threads and Send Messages in Threads, for each swap's private thread.
  • Attach Files, for the deposit address QR code.
  • Embed Links and Add Reactions.

Need help?

Ask in the Swappy Discord and mention your swap's reference number, or see Contact. Swappy is offered as is: read the disclaimer on the homepage before you swap. Swappy also works on Telegram.
